In principle, this isn’t that different from fairy bread or hagelslag.

One of my favourite memories from elementary school was the day I forgot my lunch and the administrator made me hagelslag. My little French Canadian tummy had never experienced something so delightful.

Is hagelslag the little candy sprinkles that Dutch kids eat on buttered bread? If so, around Utrecht they were called muisjes, little mice.

Yes, it’s just the name of the sprinkles. Little mice is very cute.

Muisjes and hagelslag are two different things, both sweet. Muisjes are made of anise and hagelslag is just sugar (either with bright colors or chocolate sprinkles)

Mmm, I loved hagelslag. My dad is from Holland so we often had this in the house when I was little.
