WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS!?
The Delaware House will vote today on a bill that would allow hundreds of LLCs to vote in local elections in the small town of Seaford.

In the town of 8,500, hundreds of businesses voting could be the deciding factor in every election.

👎🏽

Spineless lawmakers are also the problem. 👇🏽

“I’m kind of caught in a pickle here,” House Speaker Pete Schwartzkopf said about the bill “I do feel strongly about small-town governments. … I don't think it's a good idea. But I don't think I want to vote to stop it.”

I think voting & speaking are behaviors that firms must not be allowed to perform.

Letting businesses vote effectively gives business owners two votes.

Possibly more. An owner had 31 LLCs and voted 31 times. How is it representative democracy when one person can use shell-companies to increase individual voting power?

Echoing what others are saying: undemocratic, illegal, and the logical next step once SCOTUS determined that corporations are people with a right to political speech.

If I lived in this town I'd be worried, what do these businesses do why do they need this level of influence

The politicians voting for these no longer believe in democracy. Meritocracy and oligarchy are the words that come to mind.

What a disaster!

Meritocracy - are you joking? They obviously do nothing on merit, unless the "merit" part is about skill at lying and backstabbing

Oh FFS... corporations are NOT people, no matter what SCOTUS said when they passed Citizens United.

Priority for 2024 is getting enough blue-voting senators and representatives in Congress to enact legislation overturning that POS ruling.

I would have thought voting was constitutionally protected & reserved for humans only. Corps≠Ppl. Limited or otherwise. Beyond that, it doesn't make sense: A human wd have to exercise an LLC's right to vote, which gives them either 2 votes or votes in 2 jurisdictions, both of which are illegal.

This is a very bad can of worm to open as it will invite more gerrymandering and further divide Americans into two tier treatment.
