Not an exciting basketball game (we had a blowout win) but my boy put in a few nice shots and assists. Here's a quick video for any fans of youth sports.

First game of middle school basketball! A lopsided win, but I'm really proud of my boy and his whole team for playing some beautiful, selfless ball with constant movement, always ready to give up the ball for an assist and to help and adapt on defense. Going to be a fun season to watch!

The Annunciation by Henry Ossawa Tanner, 1898

Last time I saw this painting in person was the last time I visited Philadelphia, 15 years ago with @JenniferDesrosiers

Beautiful work and Tanner's standout masterpiece.

after graduating art school approximately 1 million years ago, I lived in a tiny apartment above a restaurant. This is a portrait of my landlord and proprietor of the bar he's pictured in, who also lived in the same building and whom I still consider a good friend.

It's been a few years since I've painted anything (fatherhood, alas) so this is older, but it's one of my favorite landscapes. Purchased by one of my few, ardent patrons as a gift to his eldest son - hoping to inculcate in him a similar enthusiasm to patronize local artists.

A mountain scene, Val d'Aosta by
J. M. W. Turner (c. 1845)
Turner was immensely important to me in art school - wished I could paint like him for years (I can't) and still find myself utterly gobsmacked when viewing his paintings IRL.

Cezanne was famously insecure about his art, following years of rejection by the Paris Salon. One art history teacher in college related to me how he once stormed out of a dinner in his honor, feeling that they (a bunch of luminaries in art that took inspiration from his work) were mocking him

last weekend I took a trip with the family into Boston to visit the Harvard Museum of Natural History. Enjoyed all their exhibits, but especially blown away by the glass flowers - unbelievable, mind-boggling detail and gorgeous, perfect color and texture on these things

it was a beautiful sunrise this morning - which I'll take as a positive omen for my 46th birthday

these are fun! My personal preference (I know it's not happening, it's not like I was on the design committee or anything) would have been for less eye and mouth. To my taste the new logo goes just slightly too far toward cute cartoon and away from a solid brand identity logo - my take below:

It's not super apparent with only the bush leaves as comparison, but this guy was pretty much Mothra-sized! I know moths get so much bigger in other climates, but for New England, he seemed a little shocking to see right outside my front door last night so I had to photograph him

took a trip with the Mrs. to the local-ish Currier Art Museum - a modest little place in Manchester I'd never visited before. Small, but lovely collection. Was particularly surprised to find that Albert Bierstadt had painted my home state - I'd never seen a NH Bierstadt!

This was a first for me. Last night made bread from scratch. Really super simple and makes me wonder why I haven't made my own bread since forever

a happy Loving Day! So grateful for the Lovings going through the absurdity of fighting for the right to get married, normalizing 'interracial' marriage so that my own could be entirely uncontroversial #LovingDay

The little man is usually engaged in either sports, reading, or hanging with friends - but every once in a while, he feels he just has to bake. And I reap the benefits

fascinating interaction with the new chat bot in Bing. After having a number of quite positive, useful interactions, things went sideways, and Bing tried hard to gaslight me here. Also discussing on Reddit:

maybe frying these suckers is not the easiest way to eat quail eggs (you gotta use a damn sharp knife with precision, you're not cracking it open with your fingers) but they are delicious! First time I ever had quail eggs, thanks to a friend of my sister who was giving away extra

this is a weird CSS decision for Spoutible @cbouzy - I don't think we want to see 'break-all' used anywhere. It makes headlines and paragraphs in a few places really weird to read, doesn't it?

my main creative outlet is in the visual arts, but I also occasionally enjoy writing. I just made available one very personal, short story as a kindle book: https://a.co/d/2zvjNtf

Would love to hear even negative feedback from the adventurous reader who can make it through this quirky thing.
