’It blows my mind. I think about all the hostility toward Meta: privacy, Cambridge Analytica, politics, Myanmar, Russia, etc. Zuckerberg and Facebook are uncool and bad. And then they dropped this Threads product, and people are like, Oh, thank God, finally I have a place to go to post my thoughts!'

Also on the Spoutible privacy side of the conversation, I feel way more comfortable here than I ever felt on Twitter. I have my actual picture and a link to my website, which I didn't do on the bird. I like the people I've met and followed here.

Threads is able to collect a wide range of personal information, including health, financial, contacts, browsing and search history, location data, purchases and “sensitive info”, according to its data privacy disclosure on the App Store.

Why would anyone agree to use this?

From my tech-savvy cousin:

"In the E.U. we (have)... much stronger privacy (GDPR) and anti-trust laws than the U.S. Set your proxy to the E.U. and find out how many newspapers and other websites can't be bothered to protect your private information enough to meet these reasonable standards."

Re the new Threads app, these are our choices?

Giving Zuckerberg still more access to our privacy or keeping Elon afloat?

I wish Spoutible received more media attention.
