Reading is essential, as the article suggests. But writing also makes one a better writer doesn’t it? Even spouting has made me more conscious of how words fit together.

Chad, you are 100% correct. It is Ferdinand Joseph La Menthe Morton, aka "Jelly Roll." He was a significant figure in both the ragtime and jazz genres. A flamboyant New Orleans figure, he took his nickname from Black slang for a woman's private parts. #Jazz #jellyroll
