My girlfriend speculates about Saskatchewan (I guess she's thinking Saskatoon) but they're like the Iowa of Canada vs. Alberta as Canada's Texas. Not much better, IMHO.

My girlfriend is disinclined to want to move to Alberta (we're both Texans ourselves), but I do think Calgary and Edmonton are reasonably progressive cities in a vast sea of rural & oil/gas industry conservatives. I fell in love with Calgary at first sight last year attending Otafest.

One podcast interviewing several HCPs in Alberta I listened to expressed deep concern over retention of existing HCPs in AB, much less expanding the HCP sector because of the ongoing bureaucratic meddling by the provincial Gov't, seen by some as backlash against COVID health measures.

In my defense, she was experiencing a profound crisis of faith when we became a couple and I gambled she was smart enough to ditch religion altogether. I lost that bet, hard, and it wasn't pretty.

My ex was almost certainly ASD as well and also undiagnosed. It put a strain on our marriage but at bottom we were just incompatible and had irreconcilable differences; I was a confident atheist and she was deeply religious but thought she could convert me I guess. We were doomed.

But a lot of Libertarian nonsense also passed that will worsen inequality, empower polluters, make it harder to tax rich people in myriad ways....and workaday Texans stupidly voted for these.

I definitely don't "ship" these characters on account of the age difference, but rather they take on a Senpai-Kohai relationship, mentor-mentee as Iria trains Kei on the art of being a professional bounty hunter. #anime #scifi #OVA #1994

Goes without saying the Tx Ledge is highly gerrymandered; the lack if initiative, referendum & recall means there's no citizens end run around the gerrymandered legislature. We can't put reproductive rights up for a vote like in other states; only the legislature can--the ones taking them AWAY!

My Dad (RIP) was a retired Texas teacher and it used to drive him up the wall how so many of his fellow Tx teachers would vote GOP and against their own economic interests time and again, election after election. Twas the rural Missouri Democrat in him that never left him.

I wish Democrats would denounce these stupid things by they largely don't. We pass these sweeping changes in low-turnout elections most people ignore and it's maddening. Worsens inequality, worsens state finances, forcing budget cuts and/or regressive sales tax hikes or higher "fees" generally.

My Dad could definitely nuke our half-bath; matches were a necessity. As for car rides with Dad, I just remember the way he smoked like a chimney in our VW Bug while I felt sick and got headaches riding in the back seat with him. #FunTimes -- NOT!

and my convenience store at my hotel in Calgary was run directly by the hotel and you could charge all purchases to the room, to be deducted from my deposit for incidentals. No need for cash there. In Toronto it was a private business leased from the hotel, run by a nice Chinese couple.

Canada 🇨🇦 seems increasingly cashless. I had a hard time spending Canadian $'s in Calgary in the Spring and changed most of mine back to USD$ at the airport. In Toronto over Labor Day weekend I managed to actually spend more Canadian cash for different stuff.
