I think such an insight into black folks lives would be invaluable. Maybe a week or month would be better.

For sure Murdoch has his mucky fingers in UK gov't. Farage is just a grifter who uses politics to make money, but he's a very deft populist and does huge damage. Johnson is worse, he deliberately damaged the UK for personal gain - what an appalling excuse for a human being.

I hope you're right. But to be clear, in the UK we've seen our economy destroyed due to populist politics. We're not taking about "the popular vote" but voting skewed by populism. It happened here big time with Boris Johnson + Nigel Farage in a supporting role.

This campaign should have been grooming a candidate (Harris?) way back before Biden even got elected. OK I agree that we are where we are, but the lack of planning could lead to disaster given Trump's ability to muster the popular vote -🤞 hope not.

I agree with all of that, but there has to be a future. Sucession planning is difficult but utterly essential. Assume Biden wins (we all pray this happens), what happens in 2028? Also I hate to be negative, but statistical chances of Biden seeing out next 4 years are not great. So who takes over?

Well, the origin to this thread was "why are we in this situation". I'm genuinely interested in why the Dem's didn't nurture a successor to Biden over the past 4 years. Someone who would be less vulnerable to Trump's and the GOP's populism. Many thought this would be Kamala Harris. Why are we here?

Where did I say that populism applied to Biden? It doesn't. The huge danger to Biden is populism.

You need to understand what populism is. It's gaslighting the general population into believing in a personality rather than substance. To believe in a tissue of lies and fabrications. People ike you and me see through this, but a massive majority of the voting public believe the lies.

Thanks. I guess many of us on the outside (UK for me), plus many of my US friends, thought that Kamala Harris was put up as VP to then run for president in 2024.

I'm a UK citizen 🙄 born & bred Scot. I was simply trying to get some insight/discussion into why the US has ended up with a real challenge to oust Trump by supporting Biden. That's a very difficult battle which IMHO was unnecessary. Mind you, UK politics is also FUBAR.

Call me pessimistic, but that isn't going to be enough against right wing control of most of the media. In a world of populist politics people will (and want to) believe the lies.

I realise you're done with this discussion, but you've not understood my point. I believe in Biden, he's absolutely one of the best, period. But trying to win election with him is a huge challenge. He's wide open to media attack despite achievements and record. The voters will believe the bullshit.

I agree with that but not as a presidential candidate at this stage. Perhaps as vice president? The bottom line is that Trump has to be defeated and I just don't think that having Biden as his opponent is the best way to go about it.

It's almost as if the Democratic party wanted to optimise the chances of losing. Even Churchill, one of the oldest serving heads of state, was 80 when he stood down as UK PM.

I've no issue with Biden as a person. My problem is why we're in this situation. Why is Democratic party supporting presidential campaign with someone who'll be 86 at the end of the next presidency - utterly insane. Few of us have relatives who live to 86. As a plan to win the election it's mad.

That's not my issue. What I'm concerned about is why and how Democratic party have failed to address what is a fatal flaw about Biden's age (but was obviously going to happen). For the future of the USA Trump has to lose, but the Democrats aren't helping by having Biden as candidate.

No-one seems to be questioning the report by the public official Hur. My issue is that this sort of thing was inevitable, so why is the Democratic Party in this mess?

Problem here is that The Guardian isn't a paper which gaslights. To have this reported by one of the world's most trusted news sources is worrying - not for me, but for the wider audience. I really do not understand why the Democrats have allowed this situation to develop - it was inevitable.

Jobs was just following the market. The iPad was not an Apple invention, but became successful due to Apple's massive marketing and sales reach plus the easy to use Aplle UI.

Nah, there'a a texture problem there. Mashed potatoes have to be super smooth. Maybe puree the olives and add that - sounds interesting. On another note mash them with olive oil.and add lots of minced garlic - wicked.
