BFF just returned from a week in London, hobnobbing w/US & UK gov't employees. The one common thread in the UK was utter bafflement at our lack of gun control and our insistence on nearly unrestricted gun ownership. It seems insane, incomprehensible, in defiance of all common sense to them.

Today is really kind of a good day, if any day with cancer can be called such. Warm, sunny, I'm into Chapter 2 of Knight's Castle, and spouse and I just spent an hour or so drowsing and reading in a shady corner under the banyans by the hotel pool as red dragonflies and hummingbirds darted overhead.

Seriously, do people who don't have big disruptive diagnoses realize how lucky they are that their bodies just keep chugging along and working without complaint? Being able-bodied is a miracle. I think I appreciated it when I had it, fitfully, but not enough.

Whoof. One small thing tied the treatment in knots, so now we're in LA until Wednesday and won't be back on treatment track until Monday. And of course cancer treatments mean it's not like we get to spend the extra time in LA on fab tourist jaunts.

Never liked NYC, but I think I've worked out why. I grew up on Sesame Street, Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler & Up the Down Staircase and fell madly in love with Paul Simon at 16. But every time except one that I've been to NYC, I've been to the coldest Manhattanest parts. It's not the same.

New #cancer discovery--sometimes it's really damn dull. Aside from the occasional vomiting spell (exciting, I guess, but I could do without), a day of infusions and blood draws is SO tedious. I can see the thrill draining out of my books and games. They are powerless here; they cannot save me.

One silver lining to cancer: work reassignments so that reimbursements are someone else's headache. The holiday party invoice, first submitted in the second week of December the Monday after the event, has been rejected for the 6th or 7th time, and I'm disgusted but my personal head isn't exploding.
