Many rivers of Manchester were covered by the growth of the city. In 2022 Mayfield park was the first to be created in the city centre for over a 100 years. The #River Medlock was uncovered during the work. (not my photo).

We live next to an airport. Our resident vigilante likes to take #Action when people park their cars on our estate rather than paying for holiday parking.

A surburban street. Under a leafy tree and beside a grass verge is a grey car. Someone has placed a large police parking sign on the front windscreen and has egged and floured the car. The sign says ‘Think before you park, this is a residential area. We ask all airport users not to park outside people’s homes. Thank you for your co-operation.’

I used to visit Delamere Forest, Cheshire, as a child. In 1998 they felled a large area & stopped draining the land to return it to its original wetland state. It’s a work in progress but it is a lot wetter now than I remember it.

A expanse of water fringed by trees and bushes. Pale blue sky above is filled with fluffy clouds. In the water we can see the tops of tree stumps. Many of the stumps are surrounded by pond weed. The scene looks a little prehistoric somehow.

2 Threaded Spouts

In Kenmore, Scotland (at the edge of Loch Tay) the church has a couple of etched windows instead of the usual stained glass. They are almost #Clear .

A tradition church window frame. It contains clear, etched glass. The depiction is of a tree of life. Below it a man tends to sheep. We can see a dam and a local pub. Through the window we can make out a wooded hillside and a bright sunny day.

After a hot water flood in the kitchen we discovered the floor was #Full of asbestos tiles.

A patchy grey tiled floor. The tiles have small splodges of colours on (red and yellow). The floor is scruffy as it has been revealed under a layer of tiles and vinyl and glue.

An old storage unit. It’s made from a warm brown wood. There are sliding glass doors on the top right. On the left a fold down section that makes a small desk area. Below there are two large doors and 4 drawers. Inside and on top are an eclectic mix of knick knacks, crockery and photos, including a Salvation Army cap. A small string of bunting is draped over the front in red white & blue.

I love alleyways and ‘back entries’. This one came with #parallel lines. Taken in Alnwick, 2015.

A stone archway leads to an alleyway (back entry) between the rears of two rows of terraces houses. The walls on either sides are of varying heights with random doorways and gates. On the floor are cobbles from one end to the other. Between the cobbles are two lines of flatter, smooth stones placed ideally for a cart to run on. At the far end of the alley we can see another terrace at a 90 degree angle. The bonnet (hood) of a dark blue car is just peeking into the photo.

I love the #spots in this stained glass window. Taken 2015 @ John Rylands Library. Currently running an exhibition examining the role of slavery in the funding of the University of Manchester.

Small circular pieces of glass in shades of green. Each circle is obscured because of the glass ‘nippple’ in the centre. They are all surrounded by lead that holds them in place and there are curved triangles of glass filling the spaces in between. The world outside is distorted by the glass.

My daughter would like to own an alpaca. But we have neither the money nor the space for such a creature. So we bought her a footrest and an alpaca wool blanket. The blanket is so very #Soft .

In a dark room a tall stained glass window is illuminated. At the top is a Star of David, it has a green centre and sits against a purple background. Below is the pillar of cloud, from the book of Exodus. The cloud (in usual grey and white colours) is surrounded by a blue and orange background. At the bottom is Hebrew writing, which I can’t interpret.

I love the way this fence throws shadows in stripes.

2018 Manchester hosted ‘Bee in the City’. Various artists & organisations were given a bee to decorate. The industrious bee is the symbol of our city.
This was the STEM bee, outside Oxford Road Station.

A large statue of a bee standing on a high curved base. About 6 or 7 feet high in total. The base is half painted black at the bottom with stars on. There are facts about slave and bees written there. The top of the base looks like someone poured golden honey over it. The bee is painted in gold, black and silver and looks mechanical. The wings are a silver honeycomb with some sections picked out in black. On the body of the bee are various scientific symbols and the faces of famous scientists.

In Manchester #Hanging (‘angin’) is a term that means rubbish, ugly or gross.
So here is a ‘angin’ stuffed squirrel who is hanging on to this branch.

A stuffed grey squirrel holds onto a chunk of tree. The squirrel looks odd, he’s too thin and long and has an expression that makes him look like a maniac. You would not want him in your living room (or your nightmares).
