Enforcement of the law always more powerful than proclaiming it.
Rep. Ritchie Torres @RitchieTorres
Juneteenth is not simply about the proclamation of emancipation. It’s about the enforcement of emancipation.

The emancipation of enslaved people became real not when it was proclaimed by Abraham Lincoln in 1863 but when it was enforced by the Union Army in 1865.

An environmental scientist and mountain man? Intrigued. He is Canadian but let’s welcome him to the whale anyway! 😜
Magnus Keith @Magnar
Bird site refugee looking for a more thoughtful and less abusive space to share my musings. Environmental scientist and mountain man. Likes long walks, sometimes with other people.

This GOP repetition of calling progressives “communists” isn’t just laughable, it’s empty, devoid of meaning or insight, just plain dumb.

Welcome to Spoutible. Enjoy yourself here. You are the algorithm. Please use Alt Text when posting a picture so people who use text readers know what the pic is about. You can also put a brief text above a gif. Echo so people following you can see what spouts you enjoyed. :)

The impacts of climate change are only going to get more frequent, ferocious, and costly.

But building on incredible local efforts, and with the most significant climate investment law ever, we can help folks not only recover and rebuild, but also prepare and adapt. #news #POTUS

Thank you for sharing @bigfatdrunk . We must understand our history both personal and as a country. It's imperative that we recognize and share our stories, good or bad.
BigFat Drunk @bigfatdrunk
Here's "my" story for Juneteenth 2023, something I have only shared with a handful of close friends. This story was found as part of a family research project.

In 1865, one of my great great grandfathers (that's just two greats!) was one of the largest slaveholders in LA.

Welcome, Magnus. 👋🏼 This is a great site. Take time to look around, follow back people who follow you if you see commonalities or something interesting in their bios, and echo (this site’s version of a retweet) as well as like a spout to show your reaction. No algorithm here, so participate!

Please give me a reason to follow you...a short bio, a pic, a spout or two. I'm not following some back because the blank profiles make me skittish. Thanks!

Thank you! 😊 I do try to interact with people here. It's in our best interests to try to make it a great place, and to help it grow. I fondly remember my days volunteering at my son's library, so your post made me smile and remember. Thanks for that 😉

2. 3 interests
3. the last thing you ate.

My family history from that side is exactly why CRT needs to be taught in America. History doesn't exist for us to feel all warm and fuzzy about ourselves: it's so we can learn and grow from the mistakes of the past.

Does anyone eat Combos at home? I couldn’t even say if they’re sold at grocery stores. Always from a gas station, right? Quintessential road trip snack.

* Whole bag is a meal, really.

The January 6th Committee has done America a great service — giving the nation what it needed most: an accounting of what occurred on January 6, why it occurred, and Trump’s role in it. Given the evidence presented by the committee, the DOJ should have no choice but to prosecute.
