Early Christianity had this unique way of finding common ground with preexisting beliefs about the cycles of life and the nature of the divine when it encountered new cultures. Of course, it’s a complicated history- but there was more “Yes, And” going on with the early missionaries than we think

The same rings true for any modern celebration that is the result of early Christian Syncretism as it expanded out of a solely Jewish framework. Christmas, Easter, and Sunday worship itself all have similar stories as All Hallows/All Saints.

Reclaiming traditional Harvest celebrations is something lots of folks are doing in recent times, but much of it is “after the fact” in searching for the foundations of All Hallows. Our awareness of it that allows for such reclaiming is because of its Christian form.

I hope that makes sense?

Of course! I appreciate the dialogue.

When I say this- I mean it is a Holiday on the Christian liturgical calendar (All Hallow’s Eve) and has been for centuries longer than our society has existed. THAT is the only reason we know and celebrate it in the modern West.

I don’t find it funny at all. The fact that people who called themselves Christian were complicit in history’s atrocities is readily admitted… as is the complicity of everyone who has ever called themselves by any philosophy- meaning it’s likely more of a problem with people

It’s also indicative of a problem with our system- the rich and powerful can always avoid the shame of a public trial

Thanks for the reply!

When sending out a proposal, do you do one publisher at a time, or cast the net out there to see if anything catches?

The most basic of questions: do I write the book first, then try to find publishing? If not, how fleshed out should an idea be before shipping it around? Especially for a first book
