even broadway shows these days are at hearing damaging levels! i cant help but think its a feedback loop now where we're all so hearing damaged that everything gets turned up even more. the more tinnitus you can avoid the better

i feel like its partially got to do with where bouzy built his initial fame, causing a significant portion of the initial signups to be from a couple very specific demos. If this site makes it long run I think we'll see those demographics diluted

this is also cool cause it shows you what the chords should be in a different mode by keeping the pattern but shifting the starting point: in major key you'll always have that I ii iii IV V vi vii (o), but in the dorian mode you'd have i ii III IV v vi (o) VII

everybody: an adaptation of a 15th century monk play. wish I had seen this one multiple times as the actors pick roles by lottery each night. a meditation on death and life that left me with a feeling of unresolved pathos. dark. uneasy. definitely clever but not as seared into my mind as the other 3

gloria: if you're a millennial you're gonna feel heard about halfway through this one and after you're just gonna feel it. Starts out with witty and incisive commentary about work culture, everything derails with an all to familiar act of violence, and the aftermath stings like only the truth can

appropriate: an american family tragedy a la Tennessee Williams. The dysfunction spins around the sin and avarice that lies at the core of our nation. The most haunting characters never take the stage and never say a line. I will never forget the deafening silence of that space beyond the stage.

an octaroon is essentially an adaption of a 1860s slavery apologia play 'the octaroon' and from that rusted and grotesque wreckage Jacobs-Jenkins fashioned a truly sublime work on theater and race. Meta af. Hard hitting. A tear that will hang in my soul forever to borrow from Jeff Buckley.

an octaroon: if I could time travel back to a single performance in my life it would be this one. Saw this at a black box production: the lights went out, Kendrick's DNA started playing (it was Fall 2017), and the actors begin dumping bags of cotton balls on the unadorned stage. Electric.
