My husband, American architect Louis Sauer, just turned 95. Also, he just published his beautiful 220 page book on his life as an architect on Amazon. We celebrated with a stay at Saffire in Freycinet in Tasmania. He’s now onto his next project, an art installation. Live full, live long, my love.

My husbands birthday in June so amazed I found him a vintage piece of hand thrown Puebla Native American thin wall pottery from Acoma New Mexico - a seed pot will join the 2 bowls he bought new from the same artist over 50 years ago. The shipping from USA is insane though.

1957 so beautifully done! I think about this piece of brilliance every April Fools. I remember seeing it as a kid on tv in the 60s and just screaming with delight.

We just got green waste bins from my council. I was happy so just chatting I asked some local church ladies -doing a community event thingy - if they’d used theirs: they scoffed ‘sorting is too difficult’. I said ‘ ..but it’s easy, keep 3 bins in the kitchen? .’ They wouldn’t speak to me again.

I’m transitioning ..letting clover take over my lawn ….. all the buzzy little native bees just loving it. The other benefits: low watering, stays lush green all summer, no fertiliser or chemicals, rarely mow just trim the edges to keep it out of planting beds.

Today I pruned the bamboo and then spent a few hours weaving the cuttings to build my rabbits a temporary play shelter. They stayed by me and were so curious and excited. I felt happy sitting in the sand making a thing, like I was six years old again.

FYI - The photos I post here are photos that I've taken in my yard of plants that are native to my area, which is part of the Lake Erie Lowland ecoregion. This region is called the Southern Great Lakes Forest ecoregion in the US, & includes most of OH, IN, southern MI, northern PA, & western NY. 😊
