Yesterday was the 75th anniversary of the end of the Berlin Blockade! I was at the official celebration and had the chance to speak to several of the Airlift veterans - all in their 90s. So inspiring. Nice that the parachutes prepared by the kids at the John F. Kennedy School featured US chocolate.

Babelsberg - summer home of the Prussian prince who later became Kaiser Wilhelm I. The fountain featuring the Archangel Michael was a gift from his father after the prince brutally crushed a democratic revolution (=dragon) in 1849. Put this beautiful place in quite another light.

German has different words for ice cream depending on the fat content and amount of milk versus cream it contains. A good human translator understands that this categorization doesn’t have an equivalent in English. Automatic translators don’t get it.

Incredible performances from the entire band (including the musicians beyond the core four). David Byrne is mesmerizing, of course. But given how shitty he was to Tina Weymouth, I was especially happy to hear the crowd’s roar of approval for her at the end.

In the US we say “life’s not a bowl of cherries” but in Germany it’s “Das Leben ist kein Ponyhof” - life’s not a pony farm. However, on Saturday I came close when I had lunch at a restaurant next to a pony farm! Just look at this face 🐴💕

I met my husband at a local restaurant for dinner last night. For a moment I was surprised that they already had their St. Patrick’s Day decorations up. Then I realized that here in Germany St. Paddy’s is not much of a thing (but lucky clovers are popular symbols on New Year’s Eve 😂) D’oh!

Friends brought a big package of crispy Sardinian pane carasau to our party and we had lots left over. So tonight my husband layered some with tomato sauce and cheese to make yummy pane frattau. Poached eggs are the cherry on top 😋 When life gives you pane carasau, make pane frattau!
