Of all the musical Kaiju Christmas movies I've come across, I can safely say "Love & Peace" is the best.

Also, I think it has my favorite live-action Santa since Miracle on 34th Street.

This movie rules.

It feels like at least once a year, a genre movie gets dropped on streaming despite deserving not only a full theatrical run but serious awards consideration.

This year, that movie is They Cloned Tyrone.

This movie RULES. It's on Netflix right now - go watch it.

I get that Disney is skittish when it comes to controversy, but I honestly think if they'd released Nimona in theaters with the right marketing campaign they'd have a banked a billion dollars and launched a major franchise...

No one is paying $8 to read tweets; they're doing it in hopes they'll be read. If the limits are intended to pressure people into paying, it's going to backfire spectacularly: less people able to read tweets just makes the subscription even more worthless.

Thinking about how Disney tried and nearly succeeded in writing off Nimona, and it's making me angry. This is an Oscar caliber film, not to mention a genuinely important one in terms of representation and artistic merit.

Good reminder about where studios interests lie

2023 is turning out to be an unexpectedly good year for fantasy movies featuring misunderstood anarchistic shapeshifting young women who presumably have demonic ancestry.

Anyway, you should all go watch Nimona right the hell now. #film #Movies #sidekicks

Turns out Roman Holiday, the 1953 romantic comedy generations have celebrated as a delightful classic, is in fact goddamn great.

Shocking, I know.

Rewatched The Black Cauldron, and God it's a mess. 80's Disney tried so hard to make a Bakshi movie without Bakshi (they asked; he said no), and just couldn't escape their own executive meddling.

Some gorgeous sequences but no tonal consistency or unified vision.

Four episodes into season 2 of Star Wars Visions, and so far this is pretty damn good. Two with amazingly beautiful animation and *fine* writing and two more also with beautiful animation but phenomenal writing.

Cartoon Saloon and Aardman outdid themselves.

All of the issues at the heart of the WGA strike are important, but the big one to me is really that studios want zero protections around AI generated material.

What the studios want is to use AI bots to generate scripts and hire gig economy writers for 1-2 days to punch it up.

I'd always meant to watch the 2004 King Arthur movie, mainly because it's a King Arthur movie. Despite this, it took me 19 years to get around to it. And now that I've seen it...

Honestly, there was no rush.

Oh, dang! The Map of Tiny Perfect Things is ridiculously good. I'd apologize for being late to the party, but the volume of great low budget science-fiction coming out these days makes it impossible to keep up.

On the topic of the divisive Peter Pan remake, you can place me firmly in the "pro" camp. It's a new spin (as it should be) and there are some missteps, but on the whole this more than justifies another adaptation. This one's worth seeing, particularly if you're familiar with the source material.

Anyone who hasn't seen Three Thousand Years of Longing and is subscribed to Paramount+ should check it out in a few weeks. It's a little unbalanced, but it's a style of fantasy that's extremely rare to see adapted on film, let alone this well.

I'm hoping Mrs. Davis gets better after episode I, because I like the premise, Gilpin is great, and warrior nuns rule. But it needs to look and feel as weird as it's written; otherwise it feels like it's posing.

Happy! and Legion pulled it off. This stuff is doable, but you can't half-ass it. #TV

Watched the first episode of Mrs. Davis. Some good stuff here, but... were the people filming this on drugs? Because, I've got to be honest, it really didn't feel like they were and for this subgenre to work you really need the director at a bare minimum on something or it's just not going to work.

Figured I'd finish off the weekend with a Wilder movie I'm embarrassed to admit I'd never seen before, Sunset Boulevard.

Of course it's great. I knew that going in, and it didn't disappoint.

That last shot of Swanson is creepier than any shot in any monster movie I've ever seen.

Watched The Thief of Baghdad (1940). My understanding is it's the first use of blue screen technology. There are some brilliantly inventive visuals and great moments. Fascinating both in its own right and in context of 8 decades of influence on adventure movies, TV, and video games.
