There are no curse words harsh enough to express the rage I feel over the fact Disney continues to refuse to sell me a blu-ray of this movie.

I simply do not trust studios to leave these things on streaming. Hell, I didn't trust them before they started giving me reasons not to trust them.

Probably best I don't have space for that.

Sure is pretty, though.

Easily my favorite Nolan movie. Love it.

It's a Christmas movie from 1929. Wyler's first "talkie." It's very good. An adaptation of Three Godfathers, if you're familiar with any later versions (Wyler's is my favorite so far, though Tokyo Godfather is pretty great, too).

I got interested in Wyler after watching Hell's Heroes last year and immediately being embarrassed I hadn't been familiar with him prior to looking him up after seeing it. I checked out a handful of his movies - Best Years was a long way from my favorite but was still pretty great.

My favorite of the series and the subgenre. I'll take Rogue Nation over any Bond movie, and I really like a lot of Bond movies.

Aside from MI2, which is actually bad, it's my least favorite in the series. The tone and pacing just don't work for me - it feels more like a series of set pieces than a connected film.

Easily my least favorite Bird movie, too. I love the rest of his filmography (Tomorrowland included).

There should be theories the movie was cover for Nigel gaining immortality, and that you can decode all the "green" references in the script to derive the formula for the philosopher's stone.

People waste their lives on flat earth bs when way better nonsense is just there for the taking. Sad.

Certainly feels like it! I've just been wrong about stuff like this enough times to remain cautious.

Oh, did you notice the actor playing The Green Knight was named Nigel Green and this was his final role? I feel like there should weird theories about that.

Sidenote: I disagree with whoever thought it was fun enough to warrant a "so bad it's good" recommendation. The ridiculous remake with Connery is another matter...

Yeah, the look is extremely close to Holy Grail. I haven't seen enough 70's fantasy to know whether they were specifically parodying this, if this was just the look of the subgenre at the time, or if it might have been like source, and my attempts to find an answer online were fruitless.

Yeah, that looks absolutely goddamn delightful. No huge surprise - season one was three dozen barrels of fun - but I didn't want to get my hopes up too soon.

But it looks like it's safe to raise expectations now. Looking forward to this.

Every time I see a movie that I remember being released referred to as a "classic," part of my soul dies, turns to dust, and is carried away by the wind.

Strong agree on the Disney+ show: I'd gladly trade any 3 non-Acolyte upcoming Star Wars shows for another season.

This was a trippy, weird retro sci-fi adventure with a lot of humor and a surprisingly scary villain. I'd love a spin-off built around the new Quantum Realm characters we met here (my biggest complaint is we didn't get enough time with them).

For a minute, I thought they'd included Supergirl in the set, as well.

(They should have).

Same. It's a borderline thumbs-up from me, but it looks good, and there are just enough scenes that work to get it over the line.

It hasn't actually been that long, but it's still easy to forget that was the first time a female character became the lead of a genre movie anywhere near that scale, let alone one of the largest franchises in the world. It was revolutionary.

As much as I love Last Jedi, The Force Awakens is still my favorite in the sequel trilogy. The entire movie builds to Rey catching the lightsaber and claiming her spot as a cinematic icon. It's one of the most satisfying moments I've seen in a movie. Powerful, too.

Yeah. It's definitely a new story, but for once it feels like it's being made by someone who actually read the source material and paid attention. I like this one - easily one of the best live-action remakes, imo.

You have to admit this portrayal is a huge departure from the historical Peter and Tinker Bell, who actually looked like [checks notes] nothing because they never existed.

The X-Men thing stood out to me, too, both for better and worse. It really feels like a superhero movie from that era particularly in how it doubles-down on SF tropes while glossing over fantasy. Considering the premise it's oddly lacking in anything mythic. But at the same time, it's SO WELL DONE.

Is this the one that's supposedly an origin story for the Disney wishing star? The animation looks good, but that level of integrated corporate IP synergy is a lot to stomach.
