Congrats to you, enjoy! I am hoping to retire within next 4 or so years (I can retire anytime now, I'm just waiting until my job irrevocably ticks me off enough to say "that's IT!")

Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if everyone met others in the middle? We 'all' have 'something' that someone else is going to judge. So much 'good' is missed or lost when we judge and complain instead of trying to understand! Wonderful thread! Thanks!

The work week after any holiday seems to last several extra days! I've only worked at my job 3 days this week but I am mentally exhausted just as I would be working 2 weeks straight with no weekends off (in child welfare, I've done that too). Here's to our upcoming time off!

Rest, even propped up, will hopefully help! When I had pneumonia, the only way I could sleep was sitting up (otherwise I was terrified I would suffocate in my sleep). Feel better soon!

If interested in adopting an older child, contact a child welfare agency in your area. Agencies can assess for foster care w. the possibility of adoption if a foster placement is successful & child can't reunify w. a parent/other family member. There are so many older children waiting for adoption

I've worked in child welfare for over 20 years (& with private adoption agencies & adoption attorneys for 13+years). I concur! We do the best we can, but some people think love is enough when sometimes it's not enough. And some people are terrible people, but hide it from the supervising caseworker

I am so hungry now from the replies. We are having my versions of lumpia and pancit for dinner (from my 40 yr old memories). My daughter was born in the Phillipines & has dozens of Filipina friends who make more traditional fare but my sweet daughter still wants my versions for Christmas eve!

My Gram made amazing panned fried chicken with a white gravy of some kind (I've never been able to replicate it) and I loved her potato salad (never liked any other potato salad until I met my husband- his potato salad is the closest to my Gram's I ever found!). My Nan made great homemade bread

I hope she gets maximum sentence. I'm a social worker in child welfare and juvenile justice. We don't often see appropriate sentencing for these types of crimes

My daughter was born in the Philippines& we make lumpia a couple times a year. We'll always make a batch for the holidays. I'm over 60 &never thought to freeze any leftover filling- we just have always added some broth & make a serving or two of what my daughter has always called 'lumpia soup'! Yum

I never thought of it that way! I'm in a very diverse group and I am often the cheerleader who complements my colleagues on a job well done. I don't think I've used it that way and it would suck if I was hurting someone with my unconscious bias. I appreciate you explaining

Usually commenting to subordinates (after meetings, one on one) "good job, you were so articulate in explaining that difficult concept in the meeting". To peers or my leadership team, I say "it helps others understand [whatever] when you are so articulate in describing (or explaining, whatever)

Why is this an insult? My team at work has high pressure meetings and we will sometimes use "articulate" in our (what I thought was positive) feedback to each other after the meetings. I need to stopping using and allowing this if we're actually insulting each other! I had no idea

I agree that it's exhausting! Back when I played video games and solved crossword and sudoku puzzles, I would dream playing candy crush and solving puzzles. At least now that I stay away from games, I'm sometimes solving real problems!

Our brains are marvelous, aren't they? I solve a lot of work issues in my sleep, but have never figured out how to get paid for the time! I have a note pad by my bed to jot down the 'dream' solutions, am always happily surprised when something works, of course some ideas are gibberish come morning!
