I love love LOVE that Derek lets me embrace my crone powers here! Gotta have some of us out front with that! Even Xander grew a mane for it.

This is not your father's AARP.

Fun fact: My late friend Doric Wilson, founder of the first LGBT theater in the US, was there during the Stonewall uprising & wrote the definitive play about it: the hilarious & moving STREET THEATER. #LGBTQhistory

#Dribble #whisper #time

At least once a year, my English teacher would decide it was time to read aloud from The Elements of Style. "Why are you mumbling and whispering?", he'd say. "If you don't know how to pronounce a word, SAY IT LOUD." He'd repeat that 3X, from the Gospel of Strunk & White.

I marvel at this cafe scene by Impressionist artist Édouard Vuillard, blurry when you are close, which gets more & more in focus the further you move back. I still can't understand how he got the painting's focal point 20 feet away, across the room.

The Fall Guy: a fun action-comedy-romance well worth seeing on a big screen. Director David Leitch used to be a stunt man, and it shows. A real valentine to the stunt team.

My plans to drive to the City Greenhouse have been upended by a bad Air Quality alert through tonight. Staying in on a hot sunny day seems the better part of valor.

Sigh. Iris garden will have to wait a day.

#Dribble #simple

The exercise was simple:
Enter the space, acknowledge that you're there, exit.
Yet Mudra Space Awareness #1 sent most actors into a crippling self-consciousness of habits & tics. She could feel her own body like an ill-fitting coat. Simple presence? A near impossible struggle.

My Uncle Mike (AKA Ray as a youth) in 1941 at a cascading waterfall. I think it was Jupiter's Terrace from a Yellowstone trip. I know the family once drove there from Chicago.

RIP to The Mirage, closing soon in Las Vegas. I remember Bob & I seeing the outdoor volcano show and spending hours in the Siegfried & Roy Big Cats exhibit in the Secret Garden. Seeing the white tigers & watching trainers inside the area with them using only hand signals was incredible.

She used to argue with her Sunday School teacher that martyrdom was dumb: just burn incense at Caesar's altar with your fingers crossed & outlive the bastards. Then Trump came, stole the Supreme Court, & stole kids from their mothers, & she knew: defiance was the only option.

A museum game I played with Bob & the grandkids was "What would you steal?" In a gallery the fire alarm goes off & you get to run out with 1 thing: what? This Tissot portrait is a favorite: the ruffles in the dress, her hair, the yellow ribbon, the seaside in the background.

Just as my white irises are passing their peak, the huge indigenous red floribunda rose by my back door is starting to pop with blooms. There should be close to 100 on it by next week.

My lawn guy tries to tie it back but it strains toward my steps like I live in Sleeping Beauty's castle.

thread 5 Threaded Spouts
Thread:

I once went to a political fundraiser where the headliner was the great comic Barry Crimmins. He did an unforgettable long-form set about the difference between liberals & the Right.

Why do liberals so often devolve into circular firing squads while R's grin & vote in a bloc?

Trauma.

Myron Clifton bringing some context & sense.
Myron Clifton @PresidentKamalasHand
There’s an interesting divide on the Jasmine Crockett rebuttal to the unprovoked attack on her by Marjorie Green, and it’s one that like most issues in America is divided by race.

Black women and men side with Rep Jasmine, especially BW who are sick of attacks on their bodies.

She read Ms. Magazine & Games Mother Never Taught You. She learned to be outspoken in meetings, to not let herself be interrupted, to not apologize for taking up space. She wore a blazer & skirt like a uniform. One promotion followed another. No wonder poker came easy.

This German hauberk is made of steel & brass rings. Chain mail - from the French word maille, meaning mesh - was expensive yet the most common protective covering for 14th century European knights. My son loved visiting our museum's Armor Court.

At the Orchestra I sometimes get mistaken for music critic Wilma Salisbury. Other than gray, we look nothing alike: I'm extra large, she's small. It must be our expression, leaning in to listen as our face telegraphs that we're already shaping the words for what we are hearing.

One of 2 safety grab bars Bob installed above the bathtub after he tiled around it for the shower. He believed in Industrial Strength everything, so they are sturdy AF. I rely on them to be able to get in & out safely. Vertical because they're anchored in wall studs.
