This truly gets me choked up. You can see the emotion in his eyes here. I hope he drew some strength from Biden's visit.

It is far too easy to convince oneself that others will do the work. We cannot be complacent. I live in AZ and this last election both created hope and fear. We were a hair's breadth away from Kari Lake as governor & we got Tom Horne as Ed Secretary, which is a disaster for public schools.

I've never played the video game, but I've read some of the criticisms about how it exploits Black trauma, minorities' trauma and it seems to be panning out in a similar way in the TV series. They apparently saw no need to respond to to those critiques of the game's narrative.

Gah. I want to like the show, but this is getting ridiculous. Do no BIPCO characters get to live in this series? Ever? Come on already. I will watch the next episode, but I then might have to immediately watch The Girl with All the Gifts and Us as antidotes.

Gah. Don't spoil it for those of who've not watched yet. But now you have me wondering: are they going to kill off yet another person of color???

While I'd already been sick of the dominance of MAGA trolls, I only experienced the abuse after my colleagues and I spoke out against a campus event headlining Dennis Prager & Charlie Kirk. Threats on Twitter and my work email haven't stopped since.

LOLOL. I was truly ambivalent about it. I Could see the benefits and the downsides and didn't feel strongly one way or the other.

Thanks. The bird app was already becoming unsustainable, but I had to abandon ship after I started having people call for me to be put before a "firing squad" or making references to my kid in their threats. All because I spoke out against Kirk & Charlie Prager's "ethics", or lack thereof.

I once heard a well-known musician at a concert talk about how he went to school with Ducey, former AZ governor, explaining that he was regularly beat up by Ducey. It surprised me not. Some of the worst of these politicians were probably bullies in school and now they have, as you say, minion.

Your comments do speak to my experience in a very important way, though. I have worked hard to find other ways to move because, as you say, not moving makes matters worse. I now bike more--to/from work, on errands--for example. I just wish I could still run and do hot yoga, both of which I love.

This is horribly demoralizing for chronic back pain sufferers. I've had horrific back pain since having my kid almost 9 years ago. I've gone from being a regular marathoner to not being able to run a mile due to the pain. Drs have either thrown pain meds at me or just shrugged their shoulders.

As an educator, I can say that we're all just a short distance away from the same. We can sit & mock it & say how awful & ridiculous it is, but I fear the same thing will happen in other states soon. It's already beginning here in AZ. Only Hobbes is saving us from it. Had AZ elected Lake . . .

Glad to see the NYT publishing an article like this, rather than their usual whitewashing of, say, DeSantis's hateful policies against trans people, his attempts to erase Black history and Black voices, etc.

I love all the transparency involved in the creation and fine-tuning of the platform. It's fabulous to see your behind-the-scenes thinking and to see how you're responding to suggestions and even criticisms--the valid ones!

Thus far, ASU administration has said nothing publicly in support of its Honors College faculty and has refused to publicly condemn the death threats, harassment, threats to our family, homophobic, and antisemitic attacks my colleagues and I have faced.

It's so damned clear that he was actively using these documents and exploiting them in his dealings with other people.
