Things I have learned from agent and editor-suggested revisions:
1. Stakes need to be crystal clear (why is this bad, what will happen if it happens)
2. Exposition isn't bad per se but it needs to be broken up with action.
3. Tension, tension, tension.

It feels really good to break the back of a scene that had been keeping you stuck in the mud for a couple of weeks. It feels less good to wake up in the middle of the night with more ideas for it keeping you from sleep.

My favorite part of #PrepTober is freaking out all October about the public commitment to writing 50k words for #NaNoWriMo , so then later in November you can also freak out about having to write 50k words because of your public commitment.
