I had tremendous hope a year ago when we all entered “Spoutible” in our search bars. Of all the alternative platforms, this one had the least in place, but the greatest potential. Even so, it has been AMAZING to see it bloom so much in such a short time.

Pie Number 2, just out of the oven and cooling on a rack. Whisky Dark Chocolate Toasted Pecan Pie. The original recipe calls for bourbon, but I like to use Revelstoke, a Canadian pecan-flavored whisky instead.

I never think of our utilitarian rosemary as being all that pretty, but every Spring it’s covered with hundreds of little #purple flowers. Bees find them irresistible and I suspect somewhere in the neighborhood a beekeeper must collect honey with a hint of rosemary in it. #DailyPictureTheme #purple

It only takes one good case of contact dermatitis for residents of the PacNW to develop a healthy respect for the poison oak that lurks everywhere in the cool wet #forests and dry oak savannas. It’s a master of disguise and can be hard to ID. Best to stay on the path! #DailyPictureTheme

Walking in the cold, wet forests of the Pacific NW in Winter or early Spring, you will see lots of licorice ferns growing out of the ubiquitous moss covering tree branches and fallen logs. The roots of the ferns do, indeed, #taste like licorice! By Summer they are gone.

The #bottle of grenadine is from Aug. 2015 when a freak storm hit OR, right when we were camping at Silver Falls. It was SO COLD & wet & windy! No power! The campfire was soggy & muddy. But my in-laws had their #bottles of “adult beverages,” LOL, so not a total loss!

Rory has always been a pretty cautious dog, even as a puppy. When we’re out on walkies, he likes to #hesitate when he comes across anything new, to give himself time to check for potential danger.

It doesn’t look like you’re standing on top of a glacier-carved mountain, but at 9733 ft, this pullout on Steens Mt Loop is the highest point you can drive a #car in Oregon. For scale, there’s another #car on the summit you can barely see, kicking up dust on its way up the road. #DailyPictureTheme

Ok, ok. We get the #message , Ankeny Wildlife Refuge. There are a lot of things you aren’t allowed to do. I might accidentally bring my dog with me to a bird refuge, or maybe lose track of time & park there after dark, but no one has to worry about me jogging. Promise.

A young Cooper’s Hawk got #tie d up in garden netting trying to chase songbirds through bushes on the ground at my in-law’s farm. The vet at the Cascade Raptor Center rescued it and took it to the Center to recover. She returned & released it back on the farm two days later. #DailyPictureTheme #tie

Even #wet , windy rain on January 21, 2017 couldn’t keep us from the first of what would be many protest marches against the Disaster who occupied the White House after Pres. Obama left.

Life started getting #better the day we received this photo along with an invitation to come meet an overlarge boy puppy. It had been two long, sad years since we lost Finn to cancer, but Rory has put new paw prints on our hearts.

If you reach this point on the Row River Nature Trail, you only have #half of the walk left to go.

As summer ends, #storage means tucking as much of the garden (and orchard) as possible into jars and freezer bags. Blue Lake green beans are a favorite at our house, and home grown, home canned are the best.

August, 2017 we had a solar eclipse in our area. An interesting effect we learned is the spaces between leaves on trees act like pinhole cameras and light passing through will create weird, crescent-shaped #spots on surfaces as the sun emerges from shadow.
