Addendum:

1. This is for an article I'm writing

2. I don't care if Mastodon can do something "in theory". If it fails every time I've tested it for 6 months, it fails. If it needs a host of special tools and browser extensions not to suck, it sucks.

3. Asterisks are addressed in the article.

4. I didn't forget Tribel. I don't think it's a viable alternative. It's more like Truth Social for the left.

5. I'm waiting on Spill to see if it gets tractions.

6.I'm not evaluating security: that's too far outside my area of expertise.

7. Definitions of each of these are in the article

8. Lists is being able to click on something that is basically a feed of people whose posts you want to see, usually arranged by area of interest (i.e. experts on the Ukraine War)

9. Yes, I know about the transparency issue

10. Yes, I know that Mastodon doesn't technically have a "for you". I looked at both the federated feed and channel feed and both were unusable for different reasons (explained in article)

11. In subjective areas, I can only provide my own experience. (e.g. For You, moderation,)

12. I will have to add that Spoutible isn't letting me respond to a lot of your replies: I click on Spout to send the message, and the text disappears without posting but the dialogue box remains.

Should have "cost" somewhere on this table. I don't use Post because everything you want to read costs a bit here and a bit there.

Some features we really value here that I would like to see on the list include:

1.) Collaborative threads (up to 4 ppl can contribute to a thread)
2.) Dark mode (urks me when n/avail on other sites)
3.) Monetization feature
4.) Pinned posts
5.) 2FA
6.) No algorithm pushing content on us
7.) Polls

User base for Mastodon might work for one of its servers. I believe one of the Chinese servers alone has 2 million users.

This is a very good and helpful chart. My only thought is that it feels a bit of that Spoutible has the same moderation as BlueSky and Threads. It also feels a bit too early to say how it is for Threads.

I think threads are Average in Mastodon, search is quite good, you just need to know what you're searching for, For You shout be N/A as that's by design. I have seen article thumbnails on Mastodon. And you can quote toot with other software. Mastodon is software for accessing the fediverse.

Thumbnails never worked for me in Mastadon. And if you need a ton of other separate apps to make site that's 7 years old usable, it sucks. Search is not "good" if you already have to know the exact name of the person you're searching for.

I will if I see signs of it taking off. It's so new, and it remains to be seen if it gets some traction. But I did consider it.

I'm not to sure what "Lists" are. From what I can see it has something to do with finding and listing people who have things in common who want to date. Am I close?

Curated content. For instance, if you're into cooking, SF/F, and TTRPGs, you might want to see the spouts from accounts that focus on those topics separate from each other, so you could put the writers you follow in one list, the chefs and cooking enthusiasts in another, and so forth.

Thanks for this table. But, really, some things are obviously in the eye of the beholder. E.g., DMs are a necessary part of any decent platform, in my view. And Mastodon has fine threads, as far as I can tell, not "poor". Is there some page where you discuss this table and derivations?

I like DMs. I currently use DMs on Twitter to keep in touch with friends from other countries where standard texting isn't a great option, as they don't use other apps for various reasons. I'm hoping they'll join Spoutible so we can stay in touch after Twitter gasps its last dying breath.

The colour coding is meant to indicate whether the platform has the feature or it doesn't, not to indicate a positive or negative review, as that is personally subjective.

Unexpected bugs that he had to squash. Some were in the just-launched Android app and needed fixing asap since people were already using it. Some were/are in the iOS app and need squashing before launch. And some came here from the bird app and tried to cause a ruckus, and that took time to sort.
