Any parent on a plane with a screaming or crying child is dying of embarrassment and doing the best they can.

A crying kid has never bothered me. Rather listen to that than some bombastic loser making sure the whole plane knows what's what.

They should stop and consider the discomfort the child is experiencing, especially with ear and altitude motion sickness. The changing air pressure for a child is difficult and painful.

All travelers complain about flying. Yet, they are always first in line to voice their obnoxious behaviour.

Knew someone whose kid was a mess on a flight. Guy says to her-

Can’t you control your kid?

Does it fucking look like I can fucking control my kid?

Yes, they are. Hopefully, more people will show compassion and even aid when something like that happens. Getting annoyed and belligerent toward the struggling parent with an unhappy child on a plane is counterproductive.

Maybe it's harder for non-parents, but with respect to children other than my own I developed an ability to 1) ascertain if the child is being attended to and if so 2) utterly blank them from my consciousness.

Yeah, but “does this rag smell like chloroform?” should always be in play.

As a parent perhaps. It’s gotta be in the toolkit. As a bystander? Oh no no.

I've crossed travel paths with some kids who were genuine brats, but generally, a kid who's losing it on a plane is having a tough go of it. And yeah, so is the parent.

Absolutely. There are people who check out and pretend they don’t know their kid. Most though are just trying to get through it.
