I've crossed travel paths with some kids who were genuine brats, but generally, a kid who's losing it on a plane is having a tough go of it. And yeah, so is the parent.

Absolutely. There are people who check out and pretend they don’t know their kid. Most though are just trying to get through it.

We fly a lot usually long haul 6 hours or more.
Those parents who are doing all they can get both sympathy and empathy and believe me we have seen our share.
Those that choose to pretend that they don't know their kids or just refuse to parent are the ones that need a lecture from the flight crew.
