Why is it called a building when it is already built? Emphasis on “ing”.

So, when it is under construction, we say, We're building the building. And when it's completed, we still call it a building.

Pardon me, my English is rusty.🤣

Common misconception - the first person to ever erect such a structure was named Bill Dingh, so the structure took his name. People later just assumed it was spelled as it is now commonly spelled.
We’ll talk more about Rusty English another time. He, too, was a great person.

It is a gerund: a noun formed from a verb and having an -ing ending. So we build a structure and that structure is called a building. #6thgradegrammar #EnglishGrammar #askateacher

Or, we build a building, and that building is called a building.
