This may seem obvious to some but I think it bears restating: Two things can be true at the same time. We can recognize the U.S. economy is doing better than it has in years and still understand that the poor remain poor and more needs to be done.

We can celebrate that Joe Biden has the most diverse administration ever and still know that marginalized communities are still suffering at a disproportionate rate and more needs to be done.

We can also recognize that the country and the world is better off because Joe Biden is president and still cry over the atrocities that are being committed against marginalized communities around the world.

Yes, let's celebrate the progress that is being made. But let us also know that we must continue to challenge the status quo if we are ever going to be a fully just society. It will be uncomfortable, and even painful at times. But true growth is never easy. Love you all 🙏

When people challenge you, listen. Understand that our lives are still in peril every day just because we exist. I urge our Spoutible family not to fall into the 'whataboutism' trap. Learn from our experiences. Read. Ask questions. We will tell you our truth.

Read the whole thread. Creating a holding zone where beauty, talent and love exist on the one hand, and also holding an awareness that there is great suffering in our populace and around the world. Well Said and thanks. We need that holding zone, not this OR the other, but both And the other.

Good thread!

it almost feels like the states have taken on civil rights issues and the government is forced to take on household issues that should be coming from state incentive programs. The governors are no longer helping with housing, insurance, community outreach, utilities etc.

Thank you! My thread is intended to address how we interact with each other on this platform and to encourage broader thinking when making statements to or about people from marginalized groups. But your point is nonetheless very valid 🙂

This sounds good but completely ignores the reality of the world. We have to understand that the moment we point out things that are still wrong in the world, we lose voters.

People have to decide are they trying to win elections to maintain the marginal gains we have made or if they want to be morally superior and lose elections. It really is that simple.
