I have one plant that came from reseeding, original plant never returned. In my area of NC the monarch migrate to FL where they continue to reproduce so I’m not as concerned with it. I do cut it back at the same time the swamp and butterfly weed die back.

I just looked up the grow zone. Wow. North Carolina ranges from 5 to 8. That's very diverse.

Yes, I’m in zone 8a but 7b is up the road from me. It does make it tricky to figure out what works here. Also western NC monarchs do migrate to Mexico.

I think all of Missouri will be rezoned to 7 in a few years. Parts of St. Louis City, three story brick housing density near riverfront, heat islands, already there. I remember my first blub catalog with Zone 7 next to my address on label. That was the year we had one month of winter.
