We used to grow it but now only plant/seed native milkweeds

I have one plant that came from reseeding, original plant never returned. In my area of NC the monarch migrate to FL where they continue to reproduce so I’m not as concerned with it. I do cut it back at the same time the swamp and butterfly weed die back.

I just looked up the grow zone. Wow. North Carolina ranges from 5 to 8. That's very diverse.

I grow regular milkweed in my backyard for that exact purpose, but have never grown tropical milkweed. I've never seen it before, but I've only lived in Wisconsin and Colorado, so nowhere particularly tropical

It's an annual outside of tropical grow zone but reseeds & germinates easier than native varieties. I know people who grow it but cut off the seed pods at first sign.

We accidently bought some this year (photo) mislabeled as native at a Master Gardeners sale near a state park. Gone now.

WOW. I didn't realize rattlesnake master bloomed. I had some in my yard but don't anymore.
