Being disabled, I want to propose an alternate view:

Not everyone who doesn't post alt text CAN post alt text.

If the goal is to be inclusive, let's opt to contribute alt text where there is none instead of disengaging.

For the chronically ill, disability is dynamic, not static.

That would be helpful. When I'm having a bad day or there's just a lot of text in a photo I can't manage alt text.

Those of us who don’t have an inkling of what alt text actually is have the same issue.

This is a great point. When I'm working at 100% I can do Alt Text. When my repetitive stress injury is acting up, it's a real struggle and I can't post at all.

If I post a pic or meme that says alt text on it, will that automatically include a description? Or do I need to include the description myself? I'm hoping to fully understand what I need to do.

It needs to be done manually by clicking the blue "ALT" button before you post the spout.

You could also append alt text as a quote spout or a reply if you forget.

Thank you for broadening my perspective. Rather than poke at people for not using alt text, I’ll QS with image descriptions.
