Thank you for explaining to me how Twitter works. "Interesting leaders" won't migrate anywhere without an audience interested in their content. You build the community first. Stop comparing a 17-year-old website to a 6-month-old website. What you are describing doesn't happen overnight.

Christopher,

🧵Without news outlets and academics, there’s little reason for Twitter’s base to be here. Which is why they aren’t. Same is true for smaller groups like various ethnic Twitters, tech Twitters, etc. If interesting leaders don’t migrate here, the followers won’t, either.…1/

It takes time to break years of habit. That is why with all the toxicity and people claiming they are leaving Twitter, they are still there tweeting away. Because that is what their brains are conditioned to do. You have to literally build a new community.

The key isn't only attracting users already on Twitter but attracting users outside of Twitter who haven't developed a habit of tweeting daily. Once again, this doesn't happen overnight.

I think another case that gives people that impression is "Post" which was promoted by famous people from day one. It's well established CEO (formerly of "Waze") is very well connected. The press happily flocked to Post because it's designed for news vendors, not people.

That said, there are cautionary takes out there like "CoSo". The atmosphere there was too hyper focused on being an oasis separate from all the "bad places" (twitter, fb etc), placing zero value on whether press or anyone was there.

CoSo is now successful yet irrelevant in the grand scheme.

I am on both platforms for the time being. I am pro Spoutible and constantly ask those I follow on twitter if they have moved here yet so we can follow each other here as well. I doubt twitter will last much longer and Spoutible is my preference and I want to see it succeed.

Our ‘instant gratification’ society thinks you can build this community over night. Spoutans are creating something new. I hope it’s more about joining other people on this journey than getting ‘followers’. BTW, could we call this joining someone rather than following? I also don’t see the

Point in following who others call famous. The blue check thing is meaningless to me. We have very talented, intelligent, and interesting 🤨 people all over the place here. I learn so much every day, and appreciate this social media platform very much.
Happy Honey Bee Day!
