Do you think this section of the book was enough to justify temporarily taking it off a required reading list at a New Mexico high school?

I've only been able to finish about 65% of the book and I thought that whatever got it on the banned list must be in the part I haven't read. I can't believe THIS is what it was. Good grief. The kids wouldn't even blink at this.

After working with upper elementary/tween/teen readers, AND as a parent, I'm pretty sure a high schooler would understand Gaiman was making slightly derisive fun of such human behavior. Generally speaking in the book, Gaiman's humor is perfect for a 6th grade boy - comic book grossness. But, (con't)

I'd want to read the book with my 4th-8th grader to explain that scene for both literature literacy and to teach my child my moral practice by inference.

High school? Have any of these people spent time with kids. They talk like this in middle school.

I was DOING that (not sex but as much as is depicted here) in middle school. And so were people I know.
*but not with married men.

That's the passage that got it banned?!?! I've been trying to figure this out for the last three weeks and I never would have remembered that tiny little passage...

No, lol, this is nothing, and even it were more explicit it is not reason to ban. These kids are not backward, they know or should know about this years ago. Kids all have phones and computers. Wow, the adults that ban these books really are not plugged into reality.

If high school kids read that, they might find out sex exists

Does not justify removal. it's gross, but pretty mild considering what's available to hs students through Internet & streaming services

The sort of people who cherry-pick passages like this as excuses for banning a book just show that they don’t understand how literature works.

Didn't add or subtract from the story really.
I saw it as another example of how people in London Above were no better - and in some ways, worse - than those in London Below.

No, not nearly enough “porn” in that passage.
