Absolutely not, WaPo Editorial Board. Why always put it on Dems? This is the GOP's mess; excoriate them to get their act together. The only way Dems should help is if there's a deal for their priorities to come up for a vote.

Right? Dems are helping elect Jeffries. Why not have Republicans help us?

Why? So the "mainstream" media can blame Democrats for anything destructive the GOP does? What does the GOP need to give up to get mommy & daddy (Democrats) to bail them out?

The editorial board of the WaPo needs to take a one way trip in their owner's dick rocket.

The last time the democrats helped them with the budget, the republicans turned around and blamed them. There is no incentive to help them out.

I desperately want to reply to you with that political cartoon of the GOP elephant holding a knife to its own trunk snarling at the Dem donkey “Don’t make me do it!” but I can’t find it

Dems made it clear they could support a regular conservative, not an election denier, not a puppet of tfg.
Those few demands have been shut down by the extreme minority.
This is a GOP shitshow. They can mop it up.

Better would be for a few moderate republicans in Biden voting districts to become Independents who caucus with the Democrats when it comes to electing a new Speaker. They break the deadlock AND they have a hope of reelection. Or is every single republican a skid mark in the political underwear?

After 3 weeks of paralysis, it’s time for moderate Republicans to vote “present” or skip the vote to help unfreeze the House. What? That’s crazy. No Republican can be expected to put country before partisanship? That’s what Dems are supposed to do and then the media can give the GOP the credit.

This is the same fantasy football bullshit S.E. Cupp was peddling last week. It's basically a GOP cry for help which Future Speaker Jeffries and his caucus have made plain they're going to leave unanswered.

Yep, I read this. The board is within shouting distance of making sense - it is time for a bipartisan deal. But to say it's the Dems' responsibility to give without taking, and further, to blame them instead of the 8 House UltraMAGAs for McCarthy's ouster? That was dumb AF.

I haven't read it (the headline made me too mad...), but yeah, even if it makes sense the framing is absurd. Why not, "It's time for 5 Rs to vote for Jeffries?"

I found it worse than that - the board both-sided the problem, claiming neither side was willing to compromise to unfreeze the House, then proceeded to discuss the power sharing arrangement Leader Jeffries proposed - IN THEIR OWN PAPER! Like that wasn't a first step to compromise. Infuriating.
