Serious question... how would federal student loan forgiveness reduce the tax revenue of these 4 states? #studentloans #studentloanforgiveness

For clarification Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and South Carolina – argue they have standing because the law forgiveness program will reduce their tax revenues.

And Missouri argues it has standing because it created and controls the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (MOHELA)

I'd assume it would actually increase their sales tax revenue because folks would have more disposable income?

Right, that would be my thought too so I don't understand how they are arguing that loans shouldn't be forgiven because that would negatively impact them.

I've read that among some states that don't automatically conform to the federal tax definition of adjusted gross income, their plan is to tax the forgiven amounts as income. But the Dept of Ed has the instruction to not report the amounts to IRS or borrowers, so those states are kinda SOL.
