The proximity of American Thanksgiving to Christmas unnerves me.

I've been saying for years—probably since I became a parent, come to think of it—that we need to adopt the Canadian Thanksgiving schedule. Makes more sense since it would be closer to actual harvest time vs. this artificial date. Besides, you need more space between visits with some families 🤷‍♀️

Canadian Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October. It's also closer to most harvest times.

I can see the point. Although, counterpoint, I have always felt Thanksgiving made a suitable thematic transition between Halloween and Christmas.

Fair point. But as the primary cook within the family, who either always had a house full of family to feed, or took my cooking skills on the road, it's a lot with little time for the house — or me — to recover.
