Just signed up for insurance for 2024 on the ACA exchange. Yes, it's a high deductible plan; it's income based (& we're on the lower end); and not everywhere has these rates...but it's not called the *affordable* care act for nothing. Monthly premium for 2 people:

They can't make money from the plan. That is why they are planning to repeal it.

It's a good thing so of course it's on the GOP hit list for things they are looking to get rid of ASAP.

Wow! I'm so glad for you. High-deductible plans aren't perfect, but it's something.

I LOVE ACA. I work as an independent contractor and have used it since it first started.

Same! I was an independent contractor then – now an adjunct professor with no access to insurance otherwise. Which I wish was universal – I don't like the idea of healthcare being linked to work.

Wow!

My employer sponsored plan takes $129+ out of my check for 'benefits' every 2 weeks

Wow! So like 260 a month?

I've found a lot of people are shocked by how much cheaper ACA plans can be than employer based ones.

Somehow ours went down this year, but sadly premiums do tend to rise no matter what insurance one has...

Same here. As an independent contractor, it was unaffordable and very limited, if you could even find a policy.

Same. I always worked for myself and/or for places that didn't offer health insurance, so I didn't have it till the year the exchange came online.

That's fantastic!

We relied on insurance via the ACA a few years back. What a game-changer!

Really is. And somehow it's down from last year (was $75/month) even though our income went up a little.

Don't feel bad about the high deductible, I had a low deductible this year but nothing I did ever met it, they treated the out of pocket max like a deductible.

Yeah, we were just talking about that – whether it's the premium, the copays, or the deductible, it all comes out to about the same. And so much preventative care is 100% free; if something big happens we'll blow through the deductible, but that's the way it works.
