What's a movie critics didn't like that you think is great?
Professor Kyle @blackcatprose
Seeing that this movie didn't get great reviews, I'm filing it in my slate of good, sometimes great movies that, because they defy genre expectation, the critics can't put them into a box & therefore don't get.

Critics, mostly male, don't appreciate the Paul Feig films with female leads. Several with Melissa McCarthy like Spy and The Heat are gems, and A Simple Favor is divine. I didn't realize that Last Christmas is his, too.

Every time I stumble on The Heat on cable I watch it again and am always entertained....I don't understand how it wasn't a total smash with 3 or 4 sequels by now

I know! It is forever and always about 2 female leads. They had a fantastic chemistry but it is near impossible for a great female buddy movie to get sequels. It really sucks.

Those are all such great movies!

And yeah, that was definitely my first thought when I saw the low reviews. Critics – those who get to choose what's good for the rest of us – need to be MUCH more diverse. Representation matters.
