After celebrating the 40th anniversary of my hike in 2023, I am going for it again in 2024: daily posts (including 41 years ago today May 2 - Oct 3). Then I plan to celebrate the 42nd anniversary with a sequel Appalachian Trail hike in 2025, a new book and a ton of new photos, if I can stay healthy.

It should be an interesting contrast. I was 24 when I made the original hike.

You can read or listen to my book for free if you are a Kindle Unlimited (eBook) or an Audible Plus (audiobook) subscriber. More about my audiobook next. Both options are available from Amazon, where the paperback, eBook or audiobook can also be purchased.

There is now an Audible audiobook version available. This uses virtual voice narration. I vastly prefer human generated works to those generated by AI, but the modest sales of my work were never going to support paying anyone for all those hours of narration.

After losing touch for many years, I have made contact with my friend and hiking partner from 1983, Dave. We hiked the first 250+ miles together back then. Turns out he wants to do this again, too, so we're getting the band back together. At this point we plan on starting some time next March.

Finally, I have been interviewed for Steve Adams' hiking podcast. Check out Episode 418 of Mighty Blue On The Appalachian Trail: The Ultimate Mid-Life Crisis.

I can't wait to read it and would love to meet up for the Smoky Mountains portion of the hike if possible.

I would be happy to meet my Spoutible friends in person. It would not be easy to coordinate. Spotty cell service and not really being able to predict exactly you might reach an given place. I would have a rough idea a few days before and not really have an exact ETA until just a few hours away.

Can spouters meet you along the way? I live in NC, 3 1/2 hours from Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Will you be hiking near there?

The AT follows the NC/Tenn state line west of Ashville for many miles. I'm still not 100% sure I'll be ready for 2025. My fallback is 2026. I would love to meet any of my fellow Spouties, but planning such a meet-up would be tough. I'll be on foot with spotty service in the mountains. Could be done.
