Apple, Microsoft, and Adobe are just three of the technology giants descended from the early 70s Xerox Alto computer. The company made a huge R&D investment and changed the world, which is really what companies should be doing now. A great long read.

I was a staff editor at IEEE Computer Magazine in the late 1970s. Worked on articles with a bunch of Xerox PARC folks. Edited some of the first articles that described how email would work.

This is what wrong with society now. Companies do not invest in the future and leave a legacy for the future. It's about CEO salaries and Wall St. profit.

Exactly. It's all about quarterly profits and stock dividends, instead of long-term creative vision to build a better world AND a better business climate.
