Every so often I get a glimpse into how differently my husband and I were raised. He was spackling some nail holes the other day and remarked it was the first time he had ever done that. My apprenticeship in home improvement started a bit earlier:

I don't recommend my parents' particular style of raising children, but I do know how to handle a lot of shit around the house that my dude is clueless about.

There's a fine line, but parents that do everything for their kids, aren't doing them any favors. I've coordinated volunteers, in many different settings. There are a lot of grownups that don't know how to do basic tasks. I'll show them, cuz I ain't doing it all!

One of my main goals as a parent is to make sure my kids are capable of basic household tasks (cleaning, minor repairs and maintenance), laundry, and cooking. I went to college knowing almost none of this.
