Another display of White people's fantasy of return to the 14th century; the Dark Ages when the age of consent was 12 yrs. old, & marriages between cousins preserved monarchies & medieval hereditary wealth & power. An obsession seen at Ur local "Medieval Times Restuarant," or Renaissance Fair.

I have worked in several cultures where first cousins marry. Unless there are genetic disorders in the family, it’s not generally a problem. Unless the marriage goes bad, because then you have siblings forced to take sides.

I too know of cultures where incest is practiced, another sad remnant of American slavery. However, my familiarity does not relieve me of the responsibility to acknowledge "Science." This is a bad cultural practice that "sometimes (a crap shoot w/someone's life)" has disastrous results.

Why are you using that hashtag!? Why not compare gross people to something gross?
So very disappointing.

File it under WTF? The Qpublicans condemn Transgender people but amazingly okay with Incest. Their hypocrisy is overwhelming.

And, there was this in the Bill. 😳

The amendment would also reduce the designation of incest by contact to a Class D felony for some cases "unless it is committed with a person who is less than twelve years of age," in which case it is Class C.

Buried deep in the legal weeds of Justice Alito's reasoning in the Dobbs decision overturning Roe V Wade is a reference to the judicial caprice of sexual conduct law as in the arbitrariness of age of consent laws & his fondness for 16th Century English law & judges who presided over witch trials.

You know, if these jerks actually paid attention in basic biology class, they’d understand why first cousins getting it on and having babies is a bad idea.
Numerous birth defects, issues, etc.
But whatever. It’s just science, right?

I agree.

We can call out these abhorrent bills certain Republicans are trying to pass without this.

In fact this hashtag makes my skin crawl cuz it kinda implies that there's something wrong w/drag queens (there is NOT), but just not AS wrong as some perv who wants to legally screw his 1st cousin.

Wow, does this guy think his genes are that superior, or is his world just that small?

Yeah, it looks like it.

My question is: How wld you accidentally strike 'first cousin' from this line? (Newsweek article)

"his or her parent, child, grandparent, grandchild, great-grandparent, great-grandchild, uncle, aunt, nephew, niece, brother, sister, first cousin, ancestor, or descendent."

I’ve worked in a variety of cultures where first cousins often marry. If there are no recessive genes in the family for genetic diseases, it’s not a problem. However, when cousin marriages go bad, it’s really bad, because it divides families.

It wasn't that long ago that marrying your first cousin was a perfectly normal and acceptable thing to do. In fact there are both genetic risk and benefits to it: https://geneticliteracypro...

As much as I hate republicans, once both consenting adults are 18, they can screw whoever they want.
