Shh, shh, everyone, everyone, quiet down.

Apparently we're not taking this SERIOUSLY enough.

Don't worry, I've asked for further instructions on how we are supposed to do that, I'm sure I'll get them in no time.

i love that on spoutible several things can be true at once:

the situation WAS taken seriously from the first instant, remediated, & then publicized

mistakes were acknowledged & owned

there are folks here who fully appreciate the technical details & import

we can also have a bit of fun & move on

Exactly! We all took it seriously when we heard, those of us who could attend the Pod did, we got recommendations, but beyond that, there's not much we can individually do.

The people who need to do the work are doing the work, what more is there to ask?

i’m actually pretty angry at people with technical know-how milling that into drama & scolding.

if you have those skills & have had any kind of career, you’ve been where @cbouzy & team are now: mortified by a mistake, & all on deck to square it.

the mature response: empathy & support, not sniping

Sniping like that is a tell for jealousy.
They have my pity but not my attention.

I agree. Or fearmongering. BC that's essentially what he's doing.

For most of us on this site, what we write is public. I never assume DMs are truly private. This site has very little financial data.

Someone impersonating a regular user will likely be noticed.

So what is the fear we should have?

I mean, I'm really not thrilled my data was scraped. It's a definite security issue for a variety of reasons. But I also expect my data to be scraped on every single website I register to use. Doesn't mean I'm comfortable with it, but the alternative at this point in history is don't use the web.

exactly.
the material threat & my emotions around it would be quite different had my bank disclosed a hashed password.
(which they would absolutely try to cover up, as others have noted)

ugh. i swore i was going to be done fuming about this. deep breath!
guess i’m feeling protective, as of family.
