These lists are always fodder for arguments, some worth having. I have often started the school year with a discussion of "the canon" and its uses and abuses. I'm wondering what people think not about the selections on/off this list but of the value of a list.

I tend not to read such lists because they tend to remind me of profs who thought all white male reactions were “universal.” In teaching, I just include a variety of authors and POVs as if that's the norm. Personal narratives of George Orwell beside Zora Neale Hurston, for ex, about peer pressure.
