This is what I used to do for a living- the French term is Trompe L'oeil, a fancy word for #fake . This 12 YO girl wanted her room to look like the inside of a stable. After that, she wanted all of her favorite animals and barn accessories. #DailyPictureTheme #Fake

Oh boy. She's twelve, so next year the whole theme will need to be painted over because it will cause her extreme embarrassment.

I doubt it. She loved the previous room I did for her, a garden themed one, originally wanted that back. The horse portrait is her own horse, all the pets were hers, and this was what she asked for, every element of it, right down to a tree frog on the wall.

I’m so curious whether you painted more in the back of her closet. Like, there could have been a cute little pony in its stall looking out whenever she opened the closet door. 😂

Oh bravo! I’ve always wanted to do this in homes. I used to be a scene painter for theatre so I am familiar with faux surface painting techniques for all kinds of materials like wood, stone. I think my favorite to do is marble. That little girl must have been over the moon for her stable room. 💛

I think she was! The horse was a portrait of her own horse, so what's not to love there? Set painting is a lot like this! I did that a tiny bit once a year for a very amateur group, and led volunteers in helping with the painting. What a blast.

Thanks! I was geeked at how it turned out. I wish I had been able to get photos with the new lights, carpet and furniture. That pink carpet kind of throws off the whole thing.

Damn, Ellen, this is amazing. I must have been a bad parent, I would have just tacked up a Charlotte’s Web poster and called it good!

Not at all! These people had tons of money, the kids were adopted and well loved, indulged in whatever they wanted. You can love your kid just as much with a Charlotte's Web Poster as this stuff. Loving them is much more important than things.

This was the second room painted for her, the first was when she and her twin brother were 5. The house was struck by lightning, destroying all wiring. The repairs were extensive, so both kids rooms needed to be repainted. Mom suggested something different for both since they were older.
