#Spoutories #happy

Mom had a phrase she used often late in life, especially when she was out to dinner with family: "I'm noticing how happy I am right now." Her readings in psychology & Buddhism made her recognize all moods as passing clouds & she wanted to give focused attention to the good ones.

I have always done that since I was a little kid, every once in a while, like when I was at Disneyland. Now that I'm old I find myself doing it all the time. Especially when the family and grandkids are over, which is at least once a week.

Your mom reminds me of this Vonnegut quote:

“And I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.”
