I've been called 6 times-- 3 times in the county where I used to live, 2 times in this county (one was for a grand jury), and once for a federal jury. Never got picked for a jury, though. I once read they excuse math teachers and engineers because we're too logical, so maybe that's why I escaped.

I was called last winter, but we had a huge snowstorm the night before and all court functions were postponed. I was never called back.

On call now. Will be until May 31st. Summons mailed to me on April 1st. Received email on April 2nd saying summons was canceled. We will see what happens over the next 6 weeks! I was previously called twice in the early 90's but never had to serve.

Jury service can be hard. The first time I got called I was selected for back to back cases. First a child molester with years of bad acts. Then an outside pot growing operation where hikers were taken hostage that ended in a non-fatal shooting.

I’ve been called twice more but didn’t have to serve.

I got called when my son was in a special school and had to be driven and picked up 25 minutes from our home so I got excused. The second time I went and got let go at noon. The third time was downtown Chicago and I actually met someone I knew in the waiting area. I got picked for a civil suit.

Neither had I... until I became too disabled to sit for any length of time. Then I got my first summons for federal court. That was about 12yrs ago, & my rheumatologist & neurologist got involved, writing letters. Now I have a permanent medical excuse, but still get called from time to time. 🤷🏽‍♀

Isn’t that the way? I wonder what makes people get called. Is it a random draw of eligible names? 💛

Served on murder trial early 1990’s. Defendant’s name was Steve. 14 jurors, 2 alternates. I was 1 of 2 women. 5 of the men on jury were named Steve. 3 full days for trial. 4 hours to deliberate. Steve, the defendant, was found guilty.

You must think of this every time you meet someone named Steve!

4 hours seems very quick. It must have been fairly straightforward. 💛

Been called a few times. Thankfully for Civil court. Did get on one trial over 30 years ago involving negligence. They bussed us and a couple of other juries under armed guard to this local restaurant for lunch. Got to a verdict too.
The other times I was released.

I did serve 20 years ago, and I was called for it last month, but by the time they got to me and my group, they had who they needed already. I can say voir dire is boring af. Even in my puny county courthouse case, I was super restless. Hours of waiting and nothingness. At least I got paid for it!

Three times, dismissed from two, the third time I became one of the jurors. Except we were 13, Judge explained one of us was an alternate and we would find out after deliberations & before the verdict which of us would leave. I was the alternate! I was escorted out and never found out the outcome.

I've been called 5 times. Deferred 3 times because I'm Kiddo's ride to school every day. Questioned once and was dismissed. And served on a grand jury for a month. That was eye-opening.

One way is to interact with the gov’t directly, questioning your property taxes or a re-zoning. They say it’s random, but when I was contacted it was after my name wasn’t found on the voting list & I had to reregister (an honest mistake). I was screened for a murder one case, but not selected.

I've been notified many times, most wind up with me calling and being told 'not needed.' The three times they called me in, twice they filled the jury before getting to me, but the third?

Child molestation. My embarrassingly obvious and immediate trauma response excluded me.

I haven't either... in my family, I think only my dad has been and he didn't have to serve. I don't know anyone who has been summoned. I'm in Calgary and our population is just over a million, so it's possible that the odds are low-ish.

Once years ago. Was excused since I had to be at mandatory arbitration the same day in the same courthouse. Never been called again. Probably just jinxed that. This county will keep you there the whole 2 weeks. Others will let you go if not picked or you serve 1 trial.

Where we live, you have to be ready to sit on a jury for three months. They will select several juries all at once and each given a number. You have to call every evening or early every morning, excluding weekends, to see if your jury is needed. Have sat on 4 trials, longest being one week.

I've been called for it a few times. Not in a long time. Once or twice when I was young, like 18 or 19, I didn't want to do it, so I told the judge I couldn't judge another human and got off. I got off due to being a student another time. Once I wanted to participate, but didn't get picked.

Called 3 times in 3 states, 1st in IL but had just moved out of state. 2nd in SC went to courthouse but that ended in plea deal. 3rd in NC heard a case and we acquitted the defendant. Strange case on new law banning spitting at LE. The judge thanked us because she agreed.
