A question:

When an why it came to be a thing that we need warnings to be added our books, other than genre?
Reader will or will not like the book anyway.

I think of it as being like movie ratings. A cover and a description don't necessarily give enough information about how emotionally difficult a book might be for some readers or what the tone is like (blood & guts & swears etc.)

I have seen like arm length warning lists for books. Have we gone too far to think that readers are too sensitive group and they need to be protected from, basically everything?
Can it also turn against the writer and the book?

Readers aren't a homogeneous group, not even with themselves. Some love being challenged and some just want to be comforted and that can vary within the person depending on the day, right? As long as we are not using our words to punch down, we should just tell the story we want to tell.

As for the TW turning against the writer, if someone is truly and deeply offended by it being there to the point where they DNF you, they probably aren't the kind of reader you'd want anyway.
