In an episode of Survivorman with Les Stroud, he was in the Australian Outback and an item he ate was witchety grubs. To be honest, it didn't seem too bad, though in a natural environment was probably unsustainable.

Witchetty grubs have been bush tucker (food) for native Australians for millenia.

Doing a quick Google search I found links to some studies into future farming of Witchetty grubs for widespread human consumption.
