Oh I'm sorry! Here you go; I always make the 1944 Trader Vic's Mai Tai- the *only* Mai Tai IMO, and the original!
- 1oz amber Martinique rum (this can be a little difficult to find but it's earthy qualities make all of the difference)
- 1oz Jamaican Rum
- 1oz Fresh lime juice

Where is that Mai Tai recipe, Guv?

- 1/2oz Orgeat syrup
- 1/2oz Cointreau
Shake, pour into a Mai-Tai glass (or a rocks glass) filled with crushed ice. Garnish with tons of mint, and the spent lime shell if desired.

Remember if it has pineapple juice, it's not a Mai-Tai!

Or am I mixing it up with another drink?

Now that I think of it, I think the Royal Hawaiian Mai-Tai is typically garnished with pineapple.

(I'm a bit of a mai-tai nerd)

Doesn’t the original 1944 TV say to garnish with a pineapple spear?

Not that I recall, I believe the original was always mint, sometimes lime as well. But there's nothing to stop you from garnishing with a pineapple spear!
