It makes me profoundly sad how many of our mothers, grandmothers, etc. lived their lives having to "put up with" their husband's bullshit because they couldn't afford to live on their own, couldn't buy a house/have a bank account, and didn't have protections from the legal system.

I am in a similar position. Hubby was main bread winner. I allowed all bills in his name. I have no credit record. None! “Stuck in the Midwest. “
