My first attempt at a roulade, and we have to call it a fail. The technique in the rolling needs to be there for a nice pretty spiral.

BUT!

The tastiest fail I’ve ever had. The components - sponge, strawberry jam, diplomat cream - all good and WOW do they go well together.

I think you need less cream -- if it's too fat, it won't roll. Which sounds totally counterintuitive, I know. Or maybe you can make a giant sheet of thin sponge cake and stuff it full of cream. (I'm saying all this as if I know how to make a roulade, when I've made only a measly jelly roll.)
